In The Best Possible Taste

The Great Taste Awards 2012

The Great Taste Awards are all about recognising the finest of fine foods, the best of the best. If you’ve got a few minutes, here’s a good article about them from the Independent which describes them as “the British food world’s equivalent of the Oscars” and “nearly as elusive as their Michelin counterparts”. This year, almost 9000 products were judged over 45 days by 350 food and drink experts. They don’t see the brand or the packaging; it’s done on purely taste alone.

The reason we’re telling you all this is that this week they announced the results and we’re very happy [*understatement*] to report that we were a winner. Admittedly it’s not exactly like the Oscars; no gold statuettes, no Elton John after-party, no accidentally turning up in the same dress as Meryl Streep (again). There are also quite a few winners, with different levels of awards depending on how special your product was judged to be. Our Sicilian lemon and fine English peppermint mints were the recipient of a two star Gold Award, making them in the top 10% of all products. Whoop whoop, as they say.

The reason we’re so proud is that the experts have said we compete on taste with everything from artisan truffles to English Wagyu beef. The difference is though that everything we make also has a real health benefit, with a British Dental Health Foundation accreditation for reducing plaque and tooth decay.

We think this is quite a compelling combo and it’s very rare to find stuff that can both taste good and do you good. This is exactly what we’ve always set out to achieve so it really is very pleasing to get this recognition.

Can I just say I would absolutely love a raspberry or blackberry flavoured Gum + Mint.

You would certainly win even more awards with these flavours.

    And congratulations on the awards!

Can you make a Mango mint, please. For a split second, I got a feint hint of mango when I was having a Fine English Peppermint… and the (imaginary) taste literally blew my mind.

    Make it so…
